Young Adult Redux: Preparing the Next Generation of Civic Leaders

February 14, 2025

What the Initiative Is:

The Young Adult Redux pilot focuses on empowering young adults to explore careers in the civic sector. Through targeted skill-building, mentorship, and exposure to public service opportunities, the initiative helps participants navigate pathways to meaningful, impactful careers. By emphasizing the importance of civic engagement, this pilot also aims to address workforce shortages in public service.

What We’ve Learned:

This initiative revealed a strong interest among young adults in making a difference through civic roles, but many lacked awareness of or access to these opportunities. Structured mentorship and clear career pathways significantly improved engagement and confidence. Partnerships with public service organizations, like the City of Sunnyvale, were essential in providing real-world insights and opportunities for our young adult participants.

Key Activities:

  • Structured civic engagement mentorship
  • Close collaboration with local government partners
  • Use of WIOA Youth funds to provide year-round internship opportunities

How It Shapes the Future:

This pilot underscores the importance of targeted outreach and mentorship for young adults. Future efforts will focus on expanding partnerships with civic organizations and scaling the program to reach a broader audience. By investing in the next generation, we can address public sector workforce gaps while fostering a culture of civic responsibility.
